The Old Covenant
The Old Covenant was made between Yahweh and the physical descendants of Jacob, Israel, and their fathers' God. With it came a Law and many promises. Moses told the Levites to place the book of the Law beside the ark of the covenant "for a witness against you" (Deuteronomy 31:26). The covenant also included provisions for fulfilling the original promise to Abraham, to give his descendants the land of Canaan (Psalm 105:10-11). Hebrews 8:13 explains that by speaking of a new covenant, God has made the first one old. Yet studying it still teaches us much about Yahweh and His ways. This section has two main parts. The Nation of Israel looks at God's covenant people, called to be a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. The Law of Moses covers the Ten Words, appointments, commandments, laws, ordinances, statutes and the Sanctuary, a Law that is spiritual and foretells Christ. Start with either to see how the Old Covenant prepared the way.
